What is Soffit?

Soffit, is a vinyl, aluminum, fiber cement, steel or wood cladding that connects the roof overhang to the side of your building. Typically soffit is used around the main roof overhang, but can also be installed under porches, under arches/columns, or even under a flight of stairs. Virtually anything that has a visible ceiling. Soffit is installed for both aesthetic and functional purposes for a homes roofing system. Without soffit, your rafter beams would be exposed to the elements potentially developing a mold buildup. and/or rotting problem.

Soffit functions as a ventilation system for your building. Ventilated soffit allows air to flow through vents providing a better air circulation in your attic . while minimizing moisture. If your attic does not cycle heat properly, your attic will draw and hold heat in the summer, while drawing moisture from snow and rain in the winter months leading to moisture buildup. Cycling your attic heat properly will lead to improved energy efficiency.

What is Fascia?

Fascia is a thin cladding that is available in a variety of materials, widths, and finishes that provides a superior alternative to painting the wooden fascia board at the end of your rafters. Protecting the fascia board is important to to the roof structure and soffits. Fascia trim can be pre-formed or field-formed from trim coil. Properly-installed fascia not only looks better, but outlasts painted wood fascia.
